Seven Yeses to God: Lee Aren’s EquipHer Journey
In the fall of 2024, I was comfortably sitting at a table with a group of ladies attending a church-wide women’s retreat at Carter Caves. There was a group activity at each table to take part in a Discovery Bible Study. I also noticed a pamphlet on our table letting us know about an upcoming women’s training called GO EquipHer in February of 2025. I tucked the pamphlet about the GO EquipHer training in my purse to read once I got home from the retreat.
The following Monday morning, while recuperating from the weekend, I got the pamphlet out of my purse and started reviewing the information. Tears started flowing down my cheeks as I looked at the images of the women on the pamphlet and the information about the training. I was prompted by the Holy Spirit to register for this training in February of 2025, and I did not understand why. But I said “Yes” to the prompting and refrained from asking anyone for further details about this training. I was to just see what it was about.
The training in February of 2025 was everything I needed to know that I did not know I needed to know. We covered women’s discipleship, sharing the gospel, Discovery Bible studies, evangelism, sharing your testimony, knowing your worth as the created image of God, and so much more. Toward the end of the training, the participants were to write out or share their “I will” statement. I blurted out, “I will facilitate a Discovery Bible study this year.” That would be my second “Yes” to the calling, and I did not realize how far the Lord would take me on this journey of saying “Yes” to Him.
Fast forward to May of 2025, and I found myself surrounded by twelve women from different areas of my life, sitting in my home and participating in a Discovery Bible Study. We gathered every Saturday in May to read the Word and ask three basic questions: What does the passage teach us about God’s character? What does this passage teach us about people? How will we obey this passage, and who will we share this with? We all shared, we all prayed, we all fellowshipped, and we were prompted with our own “I will” statements. We were learning to take the Word of God, apply it to our lives, and obey the Word.
It is now June of 2025, and with great excitement I was co-facilitating a summer discipleship class at church, a 6-week Discovery Bible Study. There were four co-facilitators and at least 12–16 participants in the class. Each week we would split up into smaller groups and facilitate the Bible study. However, by week three we had the participants become the facilitators, and we joined in the class as participants. We quickly showed the participants how easily you can facilitate a Bible study. We all had a wonderful time praying for one another, reading the Word, and growing as disciples in Christ. This was my third time saying “Yes” to Him.
Between June and July of 2025, I found myself saying “Yes” to God again for the fourth time, but this time with a coworker. I reached out to my coworker friend in what started out as a casual conversation, then having lunch together weekly and talking about spiritual things. Then this coworker friend accepted Christ as her Savior, which led to weekly Discovery Bible studies. It is now December of 2025, and we have continued to meet weekly, read His Word, answer simple questions, and then pray. God is so good. But how many times have we ignored Him and said “no” to His callings or nudging, walking away from amazing opportunities to disciple others?
In November of 2025, GO International hosted another GO EquipHer training, and this time I was so honored to help facilitate some of the lessons. God is up to something. He knows our plans far more than we do. I just keep saying “Yes” to Him and show up for what He has in store for me. He has been equipping me all year to minister and disciple women. Through GO EquipHer and the help of the Holy Spirit, I now have the tools, confidence, and resources needed to help multiply His Kingdom for His honor and glory. The Holy Spirit helps lead, guide, and direct the path. This training was the fifth “Yes” to God.
In December of 2025, after years of prayer, I finally had the courage to request from upper management the opportunity to facilitate a Bible study at work. I have worked for this Christian-owned company for 20 years and have never known anyone to facilitate a Bible study. This became my sixth “Yes,” and now a small group of coworkers meets weekly for a Discovery Bible Study. All at work are welcome, and more arrive each week to take part.
And the seventh “Yes” occurred toward the end of December of 2025 — it has come full circle. Can you guess what God has prompted me to do next? The GO EquipHer training has left such an imprint on my heart and soul that I have requested to bring the GO EquipHer training to my home church starting in February of 2026. The women’s discipleship training will take place over a 12-week period.
In conclusion, whether you are ministering locally in your neighborhood, at church, at work, or internationally on the mission field, God has a plan and purpose for all of us to GO and share the gospel.
Matthew 28:19–20 (ESV)
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Lee Aren Brown is a passionate follower of Christ who has a heart for discipleship and helping others grow in God’s Word. After attending GO International’s EquipHer training in February 2025, Lee Aren began leading Discovery Bible Studies in her home, church, and workplace. Today, she continues to say “yes” to God’s prompting by discipling women, facilitating Bible studies, and helping others discover how the Holy Spirit equips ordinary believers to multiply disciples.
