About Matt

Matt Harney serves with GO InterNational as the Coordinator of Medical Missions and a GO Team Leader. In this role, he helps coordinate the medical components of mission trips that include clinical outreach. Matt works closely with indigenous partners, local healthcare professionals, and missionary medical teams to organize and support medical ministry efforts on the field. In addition, he assists with recruiting team members, raising support for mission initiatives, and leading short-term mission teams serving alongside GO’s long-term ministry partners.

Matt first connected with GO InterNational in 2018 when his pastor invited him to join a mission trip to Boca Colorado, Peru. Although several years passed before he returned to the field, the calling to serve in missions continued to grow. In 2025, Matt returned to Peru with GO and participated in five mission trips that year. Later that fall, he began serving with GO InterNational in a volunteer staff role.

Professionally, Matt has served as a pharmacist since graduating from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy in 2003. His background in healthcare, management, and clinical practice provides valuable experience for coordinating medical outreach efforts in short-term missions that support long-term ministry work. Matt has served in several regions of Peru including Boca Colorado, Lima, Ricardo Palma, Chuquibambilla, and Sapasoa.

Matt has long felt called to use his healthcare background in ministry, particularly in serving indigent and underserved patients. Through medical missions, he is passionate about helping meet both physical and spiritual needs while supporting the work of local believers and ministry partners.

Matt and his wife, Rachel, have been married since 2002 and have two sons, Conner and Cooper. They attend Southland Christian Church in Georgetown, Kentucky. Outside of ministry, Matt enjoys following Cincinnati sports teams including FC Cincinnati, the Reds, and the Bengals, as well as University of Kentucky football and basketball. He also enjoys participating in a long-time fantasy football league, reading and watching movies—especially legal and espionage thrillers by authors such as John Grisham and Robert Ludlum—and vacationing with his family.

Two passages that guide Matt’s life and ministry are Proverbs 3:5–6 and Romans 8:28, along with a quote often attributed to John Wesley:

“Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can… as long as ever you can.”

Fun Fact: Matt is a devoted Cincinnati sports fan, which means he has developed a strong theology of perseverance.
